Lillington is served by Lillington Shawtown Elementary, Harnett Central Middle, and Harnett Central High School.

One mile east of Lillington is Central Carolina Community College, part of the state’s community college system. Central Carolina offers a college transfer program, six associate degree programs, and a laser program, which is the only one of its kind in the southeastern United States. Articulation agreements with four-year universities enable CCCC graduates to move seamlessly into additional education, if that is their goal. CCCC also offers non-curriculum courses in basic education, technical, vocational, enrichment, and general interest areas.

Four miles east of Lillington lies Campbell University’s main campus. Campbell University is comprised of over 100 undergraduate tracks & concentrations and also offers a Graduate School of Law, Business, Education, Pharmacy, and Divinity. Campbell University made the list of The Princeton Review’s “Best Colleges in the Southeast” in part due to the excellent academic programs offered.

Also within an hour’s drive from Lillington are three other universities – Duke University in Durham, NC State University in Raleigh, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
