
March 2008 – Engineer Bert Hood Retires
Bert Hood has retired after 25 years of dedicated service. He has served Lillington Fire Department as Firefighter, Secretary, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief. Bert’s experience and capability has been a huge asset to the department and he will be missed. Thank you for all you have done for this department, Bert!
February 2008 – Engine 743 Placed in Service
743 is a 1986 EEI/ Ford pumper. Anderson Creek Emergency Services was generous enough to donate this truck to Lillington for $1.00. The truck has a 1,000 gallon water tank and 1250 GPM pump. 743 has been equipped and placed in service. It will be first out on brush fires and will respond fourth out on structural calls. 743 has already responded to two brush fires with an outstanding performance. 743 takes the place of 725 which now is kept exclusively as a parade truck.
December 2007 – Fire Department Christmas Party
The Department was able to gather and celebrate the Christmas season, and reflect on all that had been accomplished throughout the year. Michael Thomas was recognized as our Fireman of the Year, based on training, call attendance and attitude. Alvin McLean was also recognized for his hard work and dedication as Chaplain of the Department. Approximately $300.00 was also raised at the Christmas Party to benefit our 2007 Adopted Family.
June 2007 – Officer Elections
New officers were elected and will serve for the next two years. The officers include the following: Assistant Chief Joey Smith, Captain Chris Atkins, Captain Josh Smith, Lieutenant Brandon Jennings, and Lieutenant Andrew Milton. Paid officers employed by the town include Chief John Bethune and Captain Jamey Roberts.
December 2006 – Federal Grant Received
We received a matching grant from FEMA. The grant total was for $60,000, $57,000 came from FEMA, and $3,000 had to be paid by the fire department. We purchased 3 new 800 mhz radios, several sections of fire hose, nozzles, and adapters. We also purchased 3 Ward “No-Smoke” exhaust filter systems for our trucks. We purchased 6 sets of turn-out gear.
